Devils Ivy
Grosbeak Gallery presents; Devil’s Ivy (Epipremnum aureum)
Devil’s Ivy has many common names, a few include, golden pathos. Ceylon creeper and marble queen. These plants are native to Mo’orea and French Polynesia but have popularized as a houseplants because of it’s ability to thrive in low light environments.
We chose to represent Devil’s Ivy as thematic piece to illustrate how overwhelming gender expression can sometimes feel. Historically, LGBTQIA + identities have been demonized and there is still a lot of anti-queer rhetoric that exists in systems today. However, this is also a resilience piece to show how like vines, queer people will thrive even in darker settings.
Colors included; genderqueer flag
Thank you to our Model; Hannah Thorson , for the inspiration
